A finalist for 2019 Hair Expo Australian Hairdresser of the Year, Pauline McCabe is the powerhouse art director behind South Fremantle’s Rock Paper Scissors Hair Studio. This year she was specially invited to compete in the 2020 AHFA Australian Hairdresser of the Year category in recognition for her outstanding work.
2019 started with a bang for McCabe, working as hairstylist for Florence Welch on the Perth stop of Florence + the Machines world tour “High as Hope”.
Synthesising look and message to create dazzling effects is her specialty. McCabe was personally invited to work on many shows for world-renowned Fashion Weeks, such as Paris Haute Couture (2019 & 2017), London (2019 & 2018), New York (2019 & 2018), and Milan (2019 & 2018 & 2017), Melbourne, and in June 2019 she directed hair for the opening show of Sydney FW for Aje. She has worked with hairdressing greats such as the legendary James Pecis, Guido Palau, Damien Boissinot, Syd Hayes, and Duffy.

Scottish-born McCabe trained with British trailblazers Irvine and Rita Rusk, who took over the mantle from Vidal Sassoon. Later she was Artistic Director for Trevor Sorbie in his heyday. She then launched her own hugely successful salon in London’s King Road. Moving to WA in 2000, her passion and creativity have continually flourished.
McCabe’s expertise flows from her eclecticism. Her roles in hairdressing include stylist, educator, art director and mentor. A painter, she has also studied Fine Art. A regular session stylist with Perth’s STM magazine, McCabe’s work has appeared in (among others) German Vogue, Yen, Hairdressers Journal International, Laud and Dscene.
Young creatives benefit from McCabe’s mentorship. She has taught in America, Canada, Europe, and Australia, for brands such as Oribe, O&M, R&Co, and GHD, and was the hairstylist for the GHD cover of The Journal, issue #4 2019. McCabe previously worked for Kevin Murphy as WA educator, currently is a GHD Brand Warrior, and a Global Mastered Ambassador.
In 2016 she was awarded the international Session Kit mentorship. McCabe travelled to London, teaming up with super-stylists Gary Gill and Anna Chapman.
